*midterm presentation notes*

start w site in the background autowalking on pokemon wiki

*concept briefly — what i'm doing and why*

it is a generative piece about walking the web

explain how it works, aesthetic choices I took — call and response audio, keyboard clicking background

I am interested in the web as a space of inhabitance, as a human space, and one that is increasingly being overrun by corporation and at risk of being overrun by machine. I feel like it is more important than ever to embrace serendipity, and humanity on the web before it is gone

changing topography of the web — from early conception, to pagerank, to machine generated and served content

switch to figma first slide

hyperlink is about believing in the possibility of liberation and preservation of the internet

research questions slide

it's about how do we continue to walk the web

the use of the word walk is deliberate — in the same way situationists reacted to urbanization and the corporatization of urban environments with the derive this is meant to be a form of web derive

*a little about my previous work*

have created a lot of websites over the past two years: flip through old sketches as examples

constructing space: pattern language, are.na, geomaps, webrings

generative systems, memory and ephemerality of digital interface

restorative, reflective, websites feel alive, accepting and confronting the ephemeral nature of internet artifacts, network speed limitations, embracing glitch and friction

*hyperlink iteration*

web walk iteration .. show artifacts and highlights found during walks

*some technical points that feel important to mention:*

load time is artificially slower than needed, both to respect rate limits but also for some added friction

nothing is stored on machine and thats intentional, it is meant to be a live walk of what is accessible at any given time the website is run

*final screen — goals and such:*

work on installation

animated sprites that may carry a message occasionally, work on sound

site skin by time of day moss, sky

circle paths rotated various sizes noise map
